Red-backed Shrike @ Bowers Marsh

Went early this morning to Bowers Marsh RSPB Reserve, in the hope that the juvenile Red-backed Shrike found yesterday afternoon by Tim Bourne would still be around. Hoorah, it was, and it showed very well in the short hedgerow just south-west of Don's Marsh. Images below were phone scoped, with an iPhone/Swarovski ATS 80. Appologies for uploading so many, but I was particularly pleased with the close-ups!

Also had a juvenile Little Stint out in the middle of the saline lagoon, just to far to phonescope.

Yesterday, I received a phone call from Steve Drake, with news that Vince Halle-Frame had found a Spotted Crake on 'The Slack' at Dagenham Chase. A very showy bird, until a Water Rail took a dislike to it and ruffed it up a bit! It became a bit more elusive after that, can't blame it, as it is quite smaller. With A supporting cast at the Chase of, immature Garganey, 2 Whinchat, Yellow Wagtail, Water Rail and Common Sandpiper. It's been a good weekend!
